With the increasing population, dwindling freshwater resources, and rising drought conditions, the use of unconventional water sources such as brackish water, seawater, and industrial and municipal wastewater has gained increasing attention worldwide. In Iran, considering the water needs of various industries, climatic conditions, and drinking water supply, the utilization of these unconventional water sources is one of the main solutions to address this issue. On the other hand, new environmental standards regarding the discharge of industrial wastewater have pushed industrial owners to take practical and effective measures in treating and bringing these wastewater streams to permissible levels or recycling them for reuse.
